Who does not want to look young? No one likes to look older than they need too and people spend millions of dollars each year on creams, injections and even surgery so they can stay youthful looking.
We are all aware of the health benefits of proper exercise, maintaining weight, keeping stress and disease at bay. Now it is becoming more widely known that exercise that works the muscular system of the body is truly what keeps you young and could be the cheapest anti aging formula available.
As well as keeping one youthful research has repeatedly shown that proper exercise that involves working the muscles with strength training exercise can have a profound effect on the rate of human aging and can even forestall the disabilities and diseases which were previously though of as unavoidable as one grew older.
So, out of the 'sitting around watching life go by mode' and into the gyms and fitness centers we go. Here are some of the benefits from getting off our behinds and moving.
Proper exercise:
• Recovers lost muscle tissue and strength so the everyday tasks and activities of living are easier
• Reduces excess body fat and the health risks it increases
• Keeps all body systems strong and healthy including the immune system giving protection from disease
• Improves circulation, shunting oxygen and nutrient rich blood into all cells and tissue to keep them healthy
• Stimulates 'growth and repair' hormones to slow the degeneration of all cells and tissues
• Increases mental and emotional health
• Makes one feel fantastic
All of these benefits can be gained just from 2-3 sessions each week of muscle building and maintaining activity. You will not get this from low intensity recreational activities like walking, jogging or cycling. They do not work the muscles intensely enough to stimulate the 'youth' hormones that will keep you young.
Research has proven that the greatest threat to our health as we get more candles on our birthday cake is not the aging process itself but rather inactivity and not doing enough muscle building and maintaining activity. Therefore, proper exercise can serve as a preventive measure and also as a treatment for many health problems. Evidence is mounting that proves that physical exercise can prevent or reverse up to half of the physical decline normally associated with the aging process. Can it get any better than that?
In many ways, your strength training exercise sessions are better than money in the bank since it reduces both short term and long term medical costs, minimizes the need for long-term care and eliminates future burdens on family, friends and society. You get to keep your independence for a lot longer and you get to enjoy life more as you will have a much higher quality of health and wellness. Much more than simply 'not being sick'.
But the greatest return is having the strength, vigor and energy to pursue every moment of your one and only life to the fullest. That old adage 'use it or lose it' has so much relevance here. We humans we not designed for a sedentary and inactive life. We are capable of large amounts of physical movement so get active and look forward to all that you will gain from it.
