Bakugan Battle Brawlers is a game for children between the ages of 4-12. It is like a modern game of marbles, based on a hit children's television series called Bakugan Battle Brawlers.
The Story
In a world not dissimilar to ours a strange event takes place, gaming cards start falling from the sky. A first people assume that they are simple playing cards, not dissimilar to Yugioh cards, but it is soon realised that they are something more. A few switched-on kids realise the potential of the game and, utilizing the power of the Internet, start 'battling' against each other. The game is called Bakugan and they are the original Battle Brawlers. From the first battle the true power of the cards is revealed- each card contains its own battling beast, which comes to life when you throw it down. Intense battling ensues between the friends the truth is revealed... there is an even bigger battle being fought in a parallel universe called Destroyer.
Whilst the story sounds far fetched it has many positives in relation to your child's development. It embeds in their psyche the age-old story of The Hero's Journey, the story of becoming you really are. Each friend has to face their own demons as they battle with everything life throws at them; each challenge becomes harder and the character has to delve deeper and deeper into their natural traits to overcome obstacles until they reach their own personal Nirvana. The characters all have fairly lovable sides and in the first episode Dan, the main character, is even friendly and respectful to his mother!
As a game Bakugan Battle Brawlers teaches the child strategic planning, math and can even get them off the Play Station. There are few games that are so engrossing and that can keep a child's attention for so long. It's also a great game for teaching social skills as the players interact both whilst playing within the arena and also as they develop the game as a hobby swapping notes on the strengths and weaknesses of the beast in the battle arena. Just wait for the cries of "Bakugan Stand!", "Power level increase to..." as they role play the parts of the characters.
A good game, one that will stand the test of time and will keep your child occupied and engaged for months.
